Take a look at what we have been talking about

It’s been a long wait, announced as far back as 2010, and released in a usable format early in 2015. If you talk to our certified developers they're glad that the pre- release window has given them time to get to grips with the new platform! It’s been buggy, and a reasonable learning curve, but the team at Star Digital have successfully completed the Magento 2 Trained Solution Partner programme and have got the recognition badge. Our strategic team made sure that the developers and solution specialists were prepared for this rollout, and anticipate that there will be a lot of demand for the new platform with existing clients looking to upgrade, and new clients migrating from other platforms or entering the commerce market for the first time. With our track record of B2B c...

It’s been a while since we posted to our blog, so we thought we’d give you a quick update on what’s been going on. There’s been some fantastic achievements amongst the team, as well as some new faces that have joined the family, in the last month or so. New Faces Leanne Town joined the digital marketing team in June. She is working with us three days a week over the summer, whilst she completes her Masters, before joining us full time in the autumn. Despite having only been here for a month, Leanne has managed to gain her AdWords certification after passing both the AdWords Fundamentals and Advanced Search exams. We also have a new apprentice, who came on board in the spring; Richard McCauley. He is learning and working on both email and web development. He has already bu...

We’re really excited to have been nominated for the RAR award for Ecommerce this year. What makes the RAR awards so special is finalists and winners are selected based on ratings and references from clients, as opposed to being judged by a panel who have no experience of working with us. We’re over the moon to be recognised and nominated for this award, and we know it is all down to the hard work the team puts in day after day. The winner of the Ecommerce category will be announced on June 10 2014. You can find out more here.

Roadchef, the well-known motorway service station brand, approached Star Digital to pitch for their digital marketing towards the end of 2013. The Star Digital team won and were appointed to work on a smartphone deals app, and also to redesign and build a new website for the brand. In April 2014 Star Digital launched the app on both Apple and Android, and an all-new responsive website. Roadchef needed a smartphone app that would drive footfall into their service stations by promoting daily deals and offering easy-to-access brand and location information. The website needed to be easy for travellers to use, as well as it using consistent branding to that used in the app. Knowing Roadchef’s potential customers were likely to be on the move we recommended a responsive website. A...

[caption id="attachment_802" align="aligncenter" width="240"] The suspect after apprehension[/caption] On Wednesday 5th March 2014 at around 11am, multiple reports of a Border Collie acting suspiciously in the Star Digital studio were made. The suspect was then caught red pawed stealing sandwiches from a fellow employee. The suspect was then apprehended on the spot and taken straight to his bed, where he carried out his sentence of 10 minutes without time off for good behaviour... Banjo Martin is well known to the authorities, he has also had previous convictions for “Rummaging through bins” and “Breaking and Entering into Kitchens”, as well as "Rounding up local sheep with out permission". “Devastated” said John Little, sandwich theft victim. “I was working away...

Honeywell’s advanced heating control system, evohome, which allows users to control the temperature in up to 12 rooms of their home, launched in the autumn of 2013. In conjunction with this STAR Digital recently launched the evohome Simulator and the evohome System Builder to help potential customers understand how the system works and what it is likely to cost. The two web apps developed by STAR Digital were done so with the aim of making evohome’s products and systems accessible – for both consumers and installers alike. The System Builder and Simulator needed to make the process of fact-finding simple, and they needed to give people an insight into what evohome can really do. The System Builder web app had to allow users to estimate the products, and the quantity of produ...

A few months ago, in October 2013, three of the developers at STAR Digital were awarded Magento Certified Developer status. Magento certification is no easy feat to achieve, and being awarded it is representative of the amount of Magento experience and knowledge the STAR Digital team has. In order to achieve Magento certification, developers have to study the principles of the Magento ecommerce architecture and evidence their competence by taking an exam under strict supervised conditions at an approved exam centre. Jake, Scott and Callum, the first of our developers to sit the exams, all have years’ worth of Magento experience between them, and yet they all studied for months before taking the exam. At STAR Digital we know how important it is for everyone to keep pushing themse...

This week Google awarded us Google Partner status. The Partner badge below is only given to agencies, or online marketers, who meet certain criteria such as following Google best practice when creating and managing AdWords accounts, providing high customer service levels and passing a minimum of two Google AdWords exams. At STAR we really value the relationships we have with our clients, and we follow Google best practice when it comes to managing PPC accounts, and receiving Partner status is confirmation that Google thinks we’re getting it right. It was in the autumn of 2013 when Google launched its new certification programme for agencies and online marketers: Google Partners. Google Partners replaces the old AdWords certification programme. This change means agencies now not ...

Following on from our post on Thursday, where we looked back at the digital marketing challenges we faced in 2013, we’re now looking ahead to this year. We think 2014 will be about continuing to target people on the go, and on the ever-increasing array of social channels. We think personalisation is going to become key, if it’s not already, and we’re sure content will continue to be king. We’ve explored each of our predictions in more detail below. We’ve considered what they mean to you and your business, and why considering them will drive your conversions up. Mobile If you’re not already considering mobile searchers, then you’re missing a major trick. The number of people searching on Google, reading emails and using APPs on mobile devices is increasing every m...

2013 was a great year for STAR Digital but we intend to make 2014 our best year yet! We’re starting the New Year by introducing what we call “Funky Fridays”. Funky Fridays are about us all expanding our knowledge base, and having a bit of ‘me’ time, with the ultimate goal of being able to service our clients as best we can. The STAR team will spend every Friday afternoon learning something new, or working towards a recognised certification. As an example, some of us will be getting stuck into Google Analytics training whereas others will be focusing on gaining their Magento certification. Not only are we concentrating on personal development at STAR, we are also going to give our site some TLC. 2014 will see us launch a brand new website which will feature our sparkly ne...

2013 was another year full of change and challenges within digital marketing. Google made our lives as SEOs trickier, mobile usage continued to soar and content marketing really came into its own. In this blog post we review the online marketing changes we faced in 2013, and what we can take from them, so they can successfully form part of your digital marketing strategy in the coming year. Everyone Needs a Content Strategy 2013 appeared to be the year for content marketing. Businesses reported a 300% increase in ROI on content marketing, and companies dedicated even more of their marketing budgets towards content creation, development and distribution. With numbers like that, content marketing shouldn’t be ignored. Having a good content marketing strategy in place can help ...
