Magento Community 1.9 Upgrade, Google PLA Feed With 12 Week Lead Time To Live

Hughie Willett is a specialist supplier of garden, horticultural and agricultural equipment. They approached Star Digital having worked with us in the past with a requirement to deliver a design refresh to include mobile responsive functionality. It was key that mobile users would find the site easy to use and to maintain their rankings in light of the Google algorithm change regarding mobile compatibility.

The old Magento installation needed to be ditched and replaced with a totally new build, and a Google Product Listing Ad (PLA) feed that was underperforming needed auditing and fixing.

What We Did

Our strategy

Star Digital designed and built an all new fully responsive Magento CE 1.9 website giving the website a brand new look and feel with intelligent customer search functionality including:

  • A custom module enabling non-technical users to quickly and easily change background images, add promotions to menu items and easily update merchandising content across the run of the site.
  • Installation and configuration of ‘Searchanise’ – the advanced search plugin.
  • Schema.org – programmatically tagging to Magento to increase search engine result relevancy.

Star Digital populated and styled all product and category pages including related products, up-sells and cross-sells programmatically using our custom Magento import middleware.

From design to launch, the project took twelve weeks to complete and was delivered to the client on time and on budget.

How Well Did We do?

Hughie Willett have a fully responsive, fully functional websites that caters the to needs of their audience as well as their own. They have a Google PLA feed that automatically updates to any changes they make within the back-end to give them another channel to reach their target audience.

Paid search acquisition increased by 119% - impressions increased by 77% and clicks increase by 70%.
