Roadchef, the well-known motorway service station brand, approached Star Digital to pitch for their digital marketing towards the end of 2013. The Star Digital team won and were appointed to work on a smartphone deals app, and also to redesign and build a new website for the brand. In April 2014 Star Digital launched the app on both Apple and Android, and an all-new responsive website. Roadchef needed a smartphone app that would drive footfall into their service stations by promoting daily deals and offering easy-to-access brand and location information. Honeywell’s advanced heating control system, evohome, which allows users to control the temperature in up to 12 rooms of their home, launched in the autumn of 2013. In conjunction with this STAR Digital recently launched the evohome Simulator and the evohome System Builder to help potential customers understand how the system works and what it is likely to cost. The two web apps developed by STAR Digital were done so with the aim of making evohome’s products and systems accessible – for both consumers and installers alike. A few months ago, in October 2013, three of the developers at STAR Digital were awarded Magento Certified Developer status. Magento certification is no easy feat to achieve, and being awarded it is representative of the amount of Magento experience and knowledge the STAR Digital team has. In order to achieve Magento certification, developers have to study the principles of the Magento ecommerce architecture and evidence their competence by taking an exam under strict supervised conditions at an approved exam centre. This week Google awarded us Google Partner status. The Partner badge below is only given to agencies, or online marketers, who meet certain criteria such as following Google best practice when creating and managing AdWords accounts, providing high customer service levels and passing a minimum of two Google AdWords exams. At STAR we really value the relationships we have with our clients, and we follow Google best practice when it comes to managing PPC accounts, and receiving Partner status is confirmation that Google thinks we’re getting it right. Recently we have welcomed three new team members into the Star family. Mina Masih joined us in November as part of our account management team. Mina has worked across a whole range of industries including property, recruitment, events, aviation and motorsports, and thus brings a huge array of skills and knowledge to the team. Yomi joined us in January; he is working as part of the programming and development team, which is getting increasingly busy! Yomi has come from an agency background and has over six years’ experience in backend development covering Magento and PHP. 2013 was a great year for STAR Digital but we intend to make 2014 our best year yet! We’re starting the New Year by introducing what we call “Funky Fridays”. Funky Fridays are about us all expanding our knowledge base, and having a bit of ‘me’ time, with the ultimate goal of being able to service our clients as best we can. The STAR team will spend every Friday afternoon learning something new, or working towards a recognised certification. As an example, some of us will be getting stuck into Google Analytics training whereas others will be focusing on gaining their Magento certification. We hope that many people share our excitement of the Star teams recent news. Last month our team at Star attended the RAR 2013 awards in London at the Montcalm Hotel and we only went and won ourselves an award! We are the delighted winners of the 'Budget, for under 30 staff' agency award, after being nominated for 4 different award categories which was a great achievement. Additionally we were voted in the ‘Grand Prix’ award as one of the top 5 agencies in the UK with under 30 staff which is a huge achievement. Star Digital have been accepted onto the Magento partner programme, and as partners we now have three new Magento Enterprise builds underway. As users of the Magento open source application since 2008 we know our way around it, and now we are working with both the community and enterprise editions we can offer clients across the retail spectrum a solution to fit their needs. Our development track record in the Magento application is second to none, and we have performed major integrations to ERP and POS solutions as well as impressive customisations for mobile viewing as well. We are very proud to be associated with the Charitarian, a Chinese based CSR magazine and organisation that is helping companies looking to trade ethcially in China. One of the guys that runs this operation is Rob Pearson, who is incidentally the managing director of CIC in Burslem, the packaging and 3D modelling specialists, and a huge fan of digital publishing. It was while we were chatting before his recent trip to China, he has 3 offices over there, that he asked me what we could do to improve the accessiblity/availablity and awareness of the Charitarian magazine.
