Just a few years ago, the average Brit probably hadn’t even heard of ‘Black Friday’, now, it’s the most important date marked in every bargain hunter’s diary. Friday 29th November, known as Black Friday, is the day when retailers heavily discount products to encourage online shoppers to loosen their purse strings during the run up to Christmas.
Online giant Amazon, will be joined by the likes of ASOS, Boots, Very, Zalando, Disney Store and many, many more, who will all be competing for attention on the biggest online shopping day of the year. We’re looking forward to seeing how these heavy-weights fight for glory and become this year’s Black Friday Champion! However, in the meantime, we thought we’d share some of the most memorable Black Friday digital campaigns to date.
So, without further ado, here’s our top 5 creative Black Friday campaigns…
Right in the middle of the Black Friday madness, ASOS announced the extremely fitting promo code ‘GOGOGO’ – rewarding shoppers with 20% off everything on the website.
It’s no secret that Black Friday can be a little chaotic. That’s why the brand displayed messages across the site, reminding customers to stay ‘chill’. By doing so, they could take a little bit of stress out of the shopping experience and created a digital sanctuary for bargain seekers. A simple, but effective idea.
ASOS have always been on top form when it comes to social media. And Black Friday certainly didn’t disappoint. To support the discount code launch, they featured a pair of gold sparkly must-have boots with lightning strikes on them – very appropriate for the flash sale. This generated over 13k likes on Instagram!
Mackage, a luxury outerwear brand, joined the Black Friday buzz with a campaign that offered up to 50% off their entire range.
The email campaign featured a model wearing a striking black jacket from their outerwear collection, intensely gazing into the camera lens. A black block with details of the promotion covered half of the image, reinforcing the 50% off promotion.
The email design was powerful, intense and somewhat mysterious, urging the viewer to click to view more.
Known for shaking things up in the fashion world (think suits with trainers), creativity can be found in every ounce of J Crew’s DNA.
For their Cyber Monday email campaign (yes, I know, it’s not Black Friday, but it’s too good to miss!), they featured a cute little mouse with a drawn-on hat and scarf, alongside the tagline ‘Grab Your Mouse! And Shop Now’.
On a day when users have already received dozens of email offers, this light-hearted campaign certainly engages the viewer and helps them stand out from the crowd.

Everyone wants to be made to feel special. Fact.
And that’s just what Forever 21 did when they provided their loyal customers with an additional day of amazing discounts. The tagline ‘One more day, just for you…’, accompanied with the voucher code ‘VIP25’ left their customers with that warm and fuzzy feeling inside – and an additional 25% discount for another day!

Global beauty brand, Sephora, sure know how to plan a creative campaign. Cutting through a lot of ‘heavy discount’ noise, they shaped their Black Friday campaign around a Christmas gift guide – the ‘Black Friday Beauty Preview’.
This guide featured 10 different beauty products for only $10 each. At such a great price, it’s easy to see how effective this campaign could be as shoppers are on the lookout for affordable Christmas gifts and stocking fillers (a brand that’s got you girls covered for Secret Santa!).
